Favorite Essential Oils

essential oilsI want to tell you about my favorite essential oils and which ones I won’t leave the house with out. I mainly find myself using oils for headaches and stomach aches. Peppermint works wonders for both. I also use Peace and Calming at night to help me relax and drift off to sleep. Night time seems to be when my brain wants to be active and go through my mental to do list, so I need something that can calm the chatter and Peace and Calming successfully does that and it smells fantastic. I have some other oils that I use more randomly but that I always have on me just in case. Below I have my favorites and what you can use them for.

Peppermint– use for overall digestion like stomach aches, also clears respiratory tract, improves mental focus, boosts energy, relieves tight muscles, has anti-bacterial/anti-microbial properties and helps relieve headaches (this oil may need a carrier oil because it can be very potent). Rub on stomach in a counter clock wise circular motion for digestion or stomach aches, apply on forehead and temples for headache relief.
Peace and Calming-use to soothe and calm, great for anxiety and stress, also a very helpful sleep aid. This oil is great to use in the bath, around the house in a diffuser, in massage oil or during mediation and prayer.
Lavender-use to soothe and calm, reduces anxiety and stress, boosts immunity, restores skin complexion, reduces acne, eczema and psoriasis, antioxidant, good for burns and wounds because of its anti-bacterial/anti-microbial properties and is fabulous for sleep. Apply on the feet, back, behind the ears or desired location. Also, great in a diffuser around the house or before bed.
Frankincense– this oil is good for anxiety and stress relief, helps relieve pain and inflammation, great skin astringent, very anti-aging, great for scars, great for flu and colds, anti-bacterial/anti-microbial. Works amazing as a household cleaner. Apply on the feet, back, or desired location (this oil may need a carrier oil because it can be very potent). Great in a diffuser to kill all the germs in the air.
Pan-Away- use for stressed muscles or other physical discomforts, tension headaches, cramps including menstrual, great for pain and inflammation also good after a work out or added to your bath.  Put on desired location or temples (this oil may need a carrier oil because it can be very potent).
Thieves- this oil is anti-microbial and is great blended with others to help protect from germs. I also use it in air freshener spray and counter cleaner because I think it smells like Christmas. Apply on the feet and back (this oil may need a carrier oil because it can be very potent). Great in a diffuser to kill all the germs in the air.
Lemon-use for cleanser, purification and immune support, also improves mood, digestion, provides cough relief, calms stomach and relieves nausea, has anti-bacterial/anti-microbial properties, is an energy booster, and is great for acne and nourishing skin and is a powerful antioxidant. Great disinfectant and cleaner, so you can add to any soap or make your own cleaner for your face or your home. You can also add a few drops to your water to help improve mood, promote fat loss and immune support.

***Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts that can be beneficial to your health through aromatherapy or topical application.

essential oils

I apply essential oils on the area where I need relief or for general support, this may be on my temples, behind my ears, on my wrists, on the back or bottom of my feet. I use 2-10 drops of whatever oil is needed at the time. If necessary I use a carrier oil like coconut oil, olive oil or almond oil to make application easier. If I am using a single oil I’ll do more like 5-10 drops but if I’m mixing a blend of a few oils I like to use 2-3 drops of each, more drops can always be added if needed. Another way I like to use oils, especially lavender or peace and calming is called a hand diffuser. I do this before meditating or whenever I feel the need of a boost of aromatherapy. I simply drop 2 drops of the oil I’m using into the palm of my hand, I rub my hands together to generate warmth. Then I cup my hands over my face and inhale deeply 3 times. It is a quick way to have a mid-day mood booster, or to calm myself down before bedtime, I recommend it!

I hope this helps you understand more about oils and gives you new ideas on how to use some you already have. I choose to use Young Living because I trust the brand and they are my favorite. I also recommend Mountain Rose Herbs, NOW and Aura Cacia.
