Coffee is an important part of the morning for many of us. Besides being an enjoyable way to start the day, it also can have many positive effects on the body as long as it is used in moderation. It should be used as a helpful boost, but not something that you need to drink all throughout the day, because caffeine in excess can be dangerous. When our bodies are exhausted they send us signals that we need to pay attention to. If you keep pushing and don’t change anything you will burn yourself out, which can lead to other issues. Reaching for another cup of coffee just to simply push through fatigue in order function is not a solution, it needs to be consumed in moderation to enjoy the many benefits it provides!
The best ways to drink coffee
I recommend drinking organic coffee when you can. One to two cups in the morning is the perfect amount. You can make it even more exciting by adding some healthy fat from unsalted grass-fed butter or organic heavy cream. The fat slows down the rate the caffeine is released in the body, allowing energy to last longer. It also helps curb your appetite, which can help with weight loss, if that is a goal. I recommend adding no more than 1 tablespoon of butter and no more than 2 tablespoons of heavy cream. By adding the butter or cream you are adding up to 100 more calories, so please adjust your morning regimen accordingly. People say that adding fat to their morning coffee helps boost energy and minimize cravings. Some people prefer their coffee sweetened, but I recommend that you keep the sugar to a minimum (or eliminate it entirely) because sugar consumption negates the positive effects of caffeine and coffee. You may find that you can slowly wean yourself off of sugar by simply adding less and less until you grow to love the taste of the actual brew itself! If not, I recommend using sweeteners that are less refined, such as organic honey, stevia or cane sugar. Cold brew coffee is also an amazing option because it is about 60% less acidic than regular coffee, making it a better option for your stomach and your teeth. Cold brew coffee has more caffeine and retains more of its antioxidants since it isn’t burned or exposed to high temperatures. It also has less of a bitter taste, which makes it the perfect drink to use when trying to get away from adding extra sweetener.
